Frequently Asked Questions
Below are the answers to some questions which carers have asked us.
Please email us with any further questions you may have and we will endeavour to answer these as soon as possible during office hours 10am to 4pm Mon to Fri excluding bank holidays.
What do I need to take the courses?
You will need access to a computer which connects to the Internet. It will be helpful, but not essential for you to have access to a printer. You will also need a private email address.
I don’t have a computer at home, can I still take the courses?
You can take an online course as long as you have access to the Internet. It will also be helpful if you have access to a printer.
What computer skills do I need to do the online courses?
You will need to be able to use a computer and access the Internet and access to a printer. You will also need to have your own email address and to be able to use email. Another skill you will need will be to download and save documents to your computer and then to print them off. If you would like more help in learning to use a computer and email, click here to see the BBC’s Beginner’s Guide to Using a Computer and the Internet.
How do I register or login to take the courses?
You click on the word register at the top of your screen and add the email address you want to use to access the courses. You then need to choose a password. Make sure you have a way to remember this, or if you choose to write it down, keep it somewhere safe, so only you can access your online courses in future. Once you have registered, you will have access to Courses One to Three which are free.
What do I do if I forget / lose my password?
If you forget your password, click on the words Lost your password? Below the boxes where you are asked to login. You will then be asked to enter the email address or username you use to login. Enter this in the box and click on GET NEW PASSWORD and a new password will be sent to your email address. If you do not receive the email, check in your spam or junk box first. If you still cannot find it, email email@example.com and we will help you when staff are next available.
What is an online course?
Online courses are structured so that all of the course content traditionally delivered in the classroom is delivered online. Our courses are a mixture of videos, quizzes and worksheets which cover issues such as coping with challenges or dealing with stress which unpaid carers often face.
The words on the computer are too big or small, how do I adjust them?
Learning how to change the size of the words on your computer is part of learning how to use your computer. You find help with learning to use your computer and websites at this website Webwise by the BBC. http://www.bbc.co.uk/webwise/guides/learning-resources
